reserve your seat

reserve your seat is a public art project designed to bring attention to and benefit Nature’s Theater at Saluda Shoals Park, the upcoming premier outdoor performance venue in the Midlands. Developed by artists Doni Jordan of Columbia, SC and Janette Grassi of Charlotte, NC, this project is a unique tribute which coincides with the 5th anniversary of unearth, a celebration of naturally inspired art, which showcases visual and performing arts in an outdoor setting to be held Oct. 2, 2011.

You can be part of this exciting event by making a donation and reserving your seat at Nature’s Theater. Donors receive naming opportunities as well as advance notice of shows, preferred parking and invitations to private events.

reserve your seat encompasses the following:

  • A collection of 50 donated chairs of all shapes and sizes, painted in bright colors and adorned with natural materials. These chairs will be displayed at local businesses and community buildings throughout the community during the month of September. The chairs will be brought together as a temporary installation at Saluda Shoals Park during unearth. Park visitors will stroll along the natural trails and walking paths to find the 50 chairs in obvious and hidden locations.
  • Photographs of each chair will be displayed at unearth and featured in a commemorative book. Book sales support the Nature’s Theater campaign.
  • An oversized chair, donated by Woodley’s Garden Center, will be placed at the front of Saluda Shoals Park on Sept. 1 to promote the project and Nature’s Theater.
    Summer Safari Activities:
  •  A photography workshop, lead by Kent Porth, for 6th-8th grade campers. Students will receive cameras and take photos to be displayed as part of the unearth photography contest and exhibit (Sept. 29-Oct. 2). The top three photos from each grade level will be recognized.
  • A chair painting project, for all k-8th grade campers, will provide miniature twig chairs to each child to be painted and placed in trees during the unearth event.
  • In-mid October, the chairs will be moved to the Nature’s Theater site and remain there until construction begins.
