In 1998 with the ground breaking ceremony in Saluda Shoals Park, a park was born. Jean - Michel Cousteau attended the ceremony and during his address to the attendees said that Saluda Shoals Park was an “outdoor laboratory”. This statement became the keystone for the development of environmental education at Saluda Shoals Park.
Environmental Education covers a wide range of disciplines among which is science research. The Environmental Education Center staff is moving in a new direction of promoting research projects at the park that meet or address the goals and objectives of our Strategic Master Plan. Inviting scientists to work on research projects in Saluda Shoals Park, takes science to a new level of learning which will produce new knowledge.
Currently there are five projects in which staff is either partnering with outside groups like USGS or participating in with scientists.
