GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Under occasional supervision, performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical or plumbing for the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission. Performs related maintenance work as required.  Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Installs, maintains and repairs electrical or plumbing systems, equipment, and fixtures

Performs routine preventive maintenance procedures on systems and equipment as scheduled.

 

Electrical Job Duties Include:

Install and repair electrical wiring, systems, and fixtures in buildings and recreational facilities.

Install circuit breakers and other electrical hardware and connections as needed.

Test electrical systems to ensure proper installation and operation.

Inspect electrical systems to determine whether repairs are needed.

Replace conduit and wiring as needed.

Replace circuit breakers as needed.

Keep up-to-date with current safety regulations and requirement for various electrical systems

Work carefully to follow all current regulations for electrical work to ensure that all installed systems pass inspections.

 

Plumbing Job Duties Include:

Carry out regular maintenance of plumbing systems at agency sites.

Perform installation of plumbing systems.

Inspect previously installed plumbing systems.

Perform necessary repairs to previously installed systems.

Keep up-to-date with current safety regulations and requirement for the various plumbing systems.

Work carefully to follow all current regulations for plumbing work to ensure that all installed systems pass inspections.

Accepts work orders and plans work procedures.

Inspects systems and equipment to determine source of equipment malfunctions; uses various test equipment.

Determines supplies, parts and materials needed for maintenance and repair projects; contacts vendors to place orders.

Inspects all completed work for proper operating and safety conditions.

Prepares and maintains accurate work records.

Refers to policy and procedure manuals, safety manual, equipment manuals, technical diagrams, supply catalogs, etc.

Operates a vehicle, bucket truck, electrical tools, plumbing tools, mechanic’s tools, diagnostic tools, carpentry tools, various other hand and power tools, telephone, two-way radio, etc.; uses electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance supplies, parts and materials.

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, contractors, vendors, and the general public.

 

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Tasks involve the regular, and at times sustained, performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderately heavy weight (up to 50 pounds).

May perform routine carpentry work as directed.

Performs other duties as required.

 

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Requires a vocational diploma in electrical, plumbing or other related area, supplemented by three to four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Electricians and plumbers must be certified. Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
