GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under occasional supervision, supervises full-time and part-time ANS/Summer Safari assistant site supervisors, counselors, part-time staff, and other park staff. Recommends and oversees the implementation of ANS/Summer Safari programs and services, activities, and events that promote a positive experience for participants and in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and standards of quality and safety. Performs related administrative and professional work as assigned. Reports to the Park Director.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Coordinates programs and activities with other recreational departments and facilities, school district staff and teachers, and others as appropriate.
Makes arrangements for participant transportation to and from schools, parks, and summer camp locations.
Recruits, schedules, supervises, and evaluates afterschool and summer camp staff, instructors, contract employees including assigning/reviewing work, maintaining standards, allocating personnel, acting on employee problems and recommending employee discipline and discharge as appropriate; reviews work of employees for accuracy/completeness and makes recommendations for improvement; offers training, advice, and assistance as needed.
Supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing, and planning work of others maintaining standards; coordinating activities; acting on employee or volunteer problems, recommending employee transfers, promotions, discipline, discharge, and salary increases.
Prepares bi-weekly payroll for program staff.
Receives and processes program/camp applications and registrations.
Manages program contracts; ensures compliance.
Maintains positive relationships with school district personnel through meetings, written/verbal communication, and surveys.
Submits for review program budgets, monitors expenditures in assigned areas, assists with the preparation of grant applications for additional program funding.
Schedules and facilitates staff meetings and trainings.
Programs and schedules afterschool and summer camp themes, related activities/crafts, field trips, daily schedules bus schedules and facility usage.
Coordinate program activities and services with other departments, school personnel and others to ensure program effectiveness and efficiency.
Refers to budget, budget reports, contracts/bids (afterschool), National Afterschool Association guidelines, program policy, procedures, standards; employee handbook; codes/laws/regulations, publications, and reference texts.
Procures, receives, and manages inventory of program equipment and supplies.
Monitors program registration for accuracy and handles corrections and fee collection as needed.
Performs all work in compliance with applicable policies procedures, regulations and standard of quality and safety.
Participates in various marketing and public relations efforts, including giving public presentations, representing the department at agency, community, and Commission functions.
Takes appropriate steps to ensure the safety of all citizens that utilize department property and facilities and take part in activities offered by the department.
Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints of parents and citizens.
Keeps abreast of trends and issues in public recreation by reading professional publications and attending conferences, workshops, and professional meetings.
Receives and reviews various records and reports including vouchers, volunteer records, timecards, permission forms, job applications, medical release forms, program registrations, etc.
Prepares a variety of documents, including but not limited to annual reports, planning sheets/lesson plans, surveys, program applications/registration, vouchers other records, reports, memos, and correspondence.
Operates a vehicle, passenger van, and a variety of office equipment such as a computer, printer, calculator, copier, telephone, computer software.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as immediate supervisor, other department personnel, subordinates, board members, committee members, civic community organizations, other government agencies, volunteers, teachers, program participants, parents, social workers, students, sales representatives, and the general public.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists other departments, facilities and employees in the planning and execution of events; serves on various agency and community committees as appropriate.
Assumes duties of assistant site supervisor in absence.
Performs duties as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university or related field supplemented by two to five years of responsible experience in educational programming, recreational programming, or management, some of which has been in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. State Driver’s License and CDL (or receive CDL within first six months of employment).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED
TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Tasks involve the regular and at times sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderately heavy weight (up to 20 pounds), and occasionally heavier objects and materials (up to 50 pounds).
Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
Interpersonal Communications: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving assignments and/or direction from supervisor and giving instructions to subordinates or volunteers.
Language Ability: Requires ability to read a variety of policy and procedure manuals, equipment manuals, schedules, rules and regulations, etc. Requires the ability to prepare reports, records, correspondence, schedules, program information, etc., with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control and confidence.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Requires the ability to apply influence systems supervising staff and program participants; to learn and understand relatively complex principles and techniques; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow and give verbal and written instructions; to teach employees and program participants. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with persons of various educational and cultural backgrounds and in a variety of technical and/or professional languages including recreation, wellness, individual and team sports, personnel, public relations, etc.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to add and subtract totals, to multiply and divide, to determine percentages and decimals and to determine time. Must be able to use practical applications of fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape, and visually read various information.
Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes using office and special machinery and to operate motor vehicles.
Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, keyboards, office equipment, control knobs, buttons, switches, catches, tools, recreation / sports equipment, safety gear, etc. Must have significant levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination and Visual Acuity: Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color; requires the visual acuity to determine depth perception, peripheral vision, inspection for small parts; preparing and analyzing written or computer data, etc.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines. The worker may be subject to danger or risk to a moderate degree and to tension as a regular, consistent part of the job.
Physical Communications: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear).
