GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under occasional supervision, recruits, trains, schedules, and directs paid and volunteer staff in the preparation of home delivered and congregate meal programs, transportation and other activities for senior citizens. Performs related administrative and para-professional work as required. Reports to the Senior Services Manager.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Outreaches and assesses all senior who desire to participate in congregate and home delivered meal program and those needing transportation.
Interacts with family members when needed for the well-being of the client.
Assists with needs; refers to necessary agencies such as Home Instead, Senior Resources, Urban League, Day Care, CLTC, Lexington Aging Program, etc.
Ensures that all Federal guidelines are followed and records are kept.
Develops and organizes new programs to ensure viability and growth among the senior programming.
Promote and increase senior participants and engagement at each location.
Assists site managers with planning monthly activity calendar.
Checks accuracy of daily meal vouchers; orders supplies for caterer.
Performs end of month reports.
Organizes and maintains donated medical equipment.
Loans equipment to seniors at their request when available.
Attends necessary trainings related to senior services such as caterer, site manager meetings, first aid and CPR, etc.
Receives, reviews and/or prepares and processes various records and reports including request for home delivered meal service, request for congregate meal service, request for transportation, request for senior activities, and request for external services, as well as ensuring home delivered meal client’s addresses are current and congregate client’s information is up-to-date and accurate.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Park Director, Senior Services Manager, volunteers, meal site staff, co-workers, congregate meal clients, other agency senior services employees, and the general public.
Planning, organizing and attending Senior trips (day trips as well as extended).
Plans and assists with special events and fundraising.
Pursue speaking engagements monthly to educate the community on senior programs.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Attends staff meetings twice a month.
Performs other duties as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Requires an Associate’s degree in social work, business, or other relevant field supplemented by one to two months of responsible experience in social services, recreation, or closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED

Physical Requirements: Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate, though not constant, physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds) and occasionally heavier weight (up to 30 pounds).

Language Ability: Requires ability to read a variety of policy and procedure manuals, food preparation guides, maps, assessments, etc. Requires the ability to prepare reports, records, correspondence, schedules, assessment reports, etc., with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control, and confidence.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes using office and specialized machinery; to operate motor vehicles.
Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, keyboards, office equipment, control knobs, buttons, switches, catches, etc. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination and Visual Acuity: Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color; requires the visual acuity to determine depth perception, peripheral vision, inspection for small parts; preparing and analyzing written or computer data, etc.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.
Physical Communications: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear).
PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Knowledge of Job: Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures, and policies of the Recreation Commission as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Senior Services Coordinator. Has knowledge of the organization of the Department and of related departments and agencies. Has knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Has knowledge in the areas of social services, program management, and business. Has good knowledge of social work case management principles and techniques. Is able to plan, coordinate and implement day trips and extended trips designed for seniors. Is familiar with general principles of counseling. Has good knowledge of nutritional needs of clients and of meal preparation and delivery methods. Is able to use independent judgment in providing services to homebound and aging clients in some non-routine situations. Is able to make sound, educated decisions. Has knowledge of administrative principles involved in planning, coordinating and implementing various programs and related activities. Is able to plan, schedule, and oversee the work of assigned volunteers. Is able to offer training and assistance to volunteers, co-workers, and employees of other departments as required. Is able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision. Is able to plan, organize, and prioritize daily assignments and work activities. Is able to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency. Is able to read and interpret complex materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job.
